1934 Chevrolet Coupe Body & Chassis

Last Update: 26/06/09

I've added some large photos of the chassis, firewall and wheel arches so the condition is clearer: Chassis | Chassis & Firewall | Front Wings | Rear Wings | Wheel Arch | Inside Firewall

This 34 Chevy 3 window coupe body shell has been stored in my dry garage since I bought it about 4 or 5 years ago and will make a great basis for a hot rod. It came from South Africa and is therefore right hand drive (altough in some ads I may have stated left-hand!). The shell is in very good condition with no rot. The car had been hot rodded in South Africa, but not very well. All running gear has been removed from the chassis - which is solid - but has a slight twist to it in the front. Some of the original crossmembers are still in the frame.

1934 Chevrolet 3 Window CoupeThe body has the original wings which are dent free and no rot to the beading. The under wing headlamp support brackets are included, along with the headlamp support bars. I also have some headlamps for it, but these are not original. The radiator surround is in reasonable nick and the grille is straight. The doors are in very good condition, but not hung.

34 Chevy FirewallThe top half of the original firewall is still in place - just a crude hole burnt through for brake cylinder in SA. Cowl vent has no rot. Front part of chassis rails aren't pretty. They were cut off at some stage, then welded back on. I assume to install front suspension crossmember.

34 Chevy Front WingsFront Wings, grille and headlamp support bars. The shell comes with the original 34 Chevy bumpers - solid and original shape.

Inside FirewallYou can see here that I've removed the woodwork from around the door hinge area, in preparation for a new box section hinge frame. Included with the shell will be 2 pairs of concealed hinges from Reality Hot Rods. I have the original flitch plates that covered the front inner door jambs and these are in really good condition. I also have the original dash, which I don't think has any extra holes in it - but don't hold me to that!

The chassis has been boxed - badly!

ChassisHere you can see some of the remaining crossmembers and rear of the door jamb. Woodwork still in situ in back of body, around rear window, around canvas roof aperture and along the bottom of door jamb.

34 Chevy RearBootlid is solid with wooden frame. Must've been a rumble seat originally judging by the hinges/pivot. Rear apron appears to have rotted away around bumper mounts.

DentAt some time during this Chevy's life, something must've fallen on the roof above the driver's door. The curved contour of the door opening doesn't exactly follow that of the door. It had been welded and filled at the point where I've ground out the weld. On the other side of the roof at this point there is a lead loaded joint. Needs a small amount of work to tidy up this side. Apart from this blemish, the doors fit the body fine.

34 Chevrolet Bumpers1934 Chevrolet front and rear bumpers are in good condition. They don't appear to have been straightened. Front door jamb surrounds in the foreground. These were pressed from about 3mm plate.

Also of interest may be the independent front suspension assembly built to suit this Chevy chassis but would fit a 32/34 Ford or similar.

How about a pair of 18" x 12" 3 piece, billet centre alloy wheels.
