Moreton Corbet Castle

Located roughly midway between Shrewsbury and Market Drayton in Shropshire, Moreton Corbet castle is an English Heritage site in a fairly remote location. The ruins give a good impression of the building's original appearance, especially as you approach down the country lanes across this flat landscape, when at first glance over the hedges you can believe it is a complete Elizabethan Manor House. The earlier castle element of the ruins date back to Medieval times, and form a kind of horseshoe layout at the back of the rectangular manor house building. Morton Corbet castle's gatehouse is still standing and offers further photographic opportunities. Adjacent to Morton Corbet castle is St Bartholomew's church which you can just see above the trees to the left of the ruins.
The castle is situated just off the B5063 between the A53 Shrewsbury to Market Drayton road and the A49 Shrewsbury to Whitchurch road near Stanton-upon-Hine-Heath and Shawbury.
This particular image was taken in early March, from an elevated position, remotely controlled on top of a tall tripod, to eliminate converging verticals and give less of an impression of looking up at the building. The lighting conditions were just about ideal, within an hour or so of the sun disappearing behind the farm buildings opposite. This shot has had only minor tweaking in Photoshop.
